27in. tires is all but dead. It was around yrs. ago because many American low/medium priced bikes came with 27in wheels and schrader valve tubes but even then the really good tires where 700 and some 650's with presta valves. Some of the tires available these days are Continental Ultra Gaterskin,Conti. Ultra Sport,IRC Roadwinner II, Michelin World Tour, Panaracer Pasele/Pasela Tourguard and Vittoria Zaffiro. All of equal quality but all still far below the quality tire that I like to ride. Happy hunting. I know there are many nice tires in the 700c size, but I'm finding it increasingly hard to find a good high performance 27 inch tire, especially in the narrow widths. Is 27 inch dead? I wonder since many of the older bikes take 27 inch wheels. Any recommendations for a good high performance 27 inch tire or is Ebay the best place to see if a vintage tire turns up? I recently purchased two old 27 x 1inch Michelin Elans off Ebay. Fred Durrette Summerville, SC _______________________________________________
