Gang,
As some of you might recall, I built a frame last year that I brought with me to Cirque this summer. The bike was built up as a 5-speed sport/road bike with a single 47T chainring up front and a 5-speed (120mm rear-spacing) rear.
I have decided to reconfigure the bike as a ten-speed, installing NOS Suntour barcons, a clamp-on front derailleur and a pair of NR chainrings (42T and 52T).
The bike is currently built-up with a complete Nuovo Record group, which I removed from a 1974 Raleigh Professional a while back.
The problem is, I did not crimp the chainstays to accommodate the inner chainring...and the current spindle is too dang short.
>From what I gather, it is a standard pre-CPSC NR bottom bracket: "thin cups", 68-SS-120 spindle.
So I am wondering what my options are. Were the 68-SS-120 spindles available in multiple lengths? Or do I need "68-SS-120/X-3" (touring triple or cyclocross) to make this happen?
Am I destined to buy an endless supply of spindles and cups before I find the magic combination?
Any help is appreciated,
