Hello , I have several Chrome Paramounts ('38 &'71-74)and a Gitane ('71?) and the chrome is holding up remarkably. If wax is applied and it is kept clean the finish looks new. I do remember some frame builders in the '70's believed that chroming welds made them more brittle. The added weight is negligable unless you are a 0 body fat athlete IMHO. My '38 Paramount track bike is holding up very well, no chrome defects in 71 years. I just got a '36 American Flyer(Schwinn, off topic) all Factory chrome and it still looks better than new. (show bike that was never used). I don't believe that the Crome today is done as well as in the past due to environmental reg's.
