I have been told that Ken Janes died in unfortunate circumstances last week
at the age of 83. There are probably more CR list members who have examples
of Ken's work without knowing it than those who are aware of the work he did
on their frames. Ken was one of the largely unsung heroes of the British
frame building world, but his workmanship was superb. He cut lugs and built
frames for Hetchins, Paris, Cottingham, Ephgrave, and Carpenter, and also
built a few bearing his own name. He was still cutting lugs right up until
his death and I was recently privileged to be able to handle and examine
some of his work. Ken had a remarkable life, much of which is well
documented at http://www.hetchins.org/
