Just goes to show you how far we've come . . .
It was probably post-1983 (and accordingly O.T.) when I first heard Phil giving a dynamic play-by-play. Television in the States only started covering the Tour de France regularly after Greg LeMond was riding. Seems the majority of us uncultured Yanks have a fixation with sports involving balls, brawling and beer (as a sponsor).
Also probably O.T. - my wife admitted she had the hots for Laurent Fignon.
Come to think of it, so did I!

.... on or off topic. .... a local sports radio station this afternoon, ie mostly about a sorry local football team .... just gave almost 15 minutes to phil ... who waxed poetically about the tour de france. .... would have run off the road if i hadn't already been in the house. didn't here any "dancing on the pedal bit" though ! ... and another bbc translation query. just went through the first few of George Gentley. i think i have worn out my dvd player's rewind .... what are these people saying ?
