From personal experience, I know that cyclists should be at the very least cautious regarding their activity and it's effects on bone density. For quite a number of years I was an active Randonneur cyclist - which may be cycling in the extreme by anyone's measure. As part of passing the magic age of 50, I recently had my bone density checked as part of a full medical. Through this I discovered that I have what ever they call the pre-cursor of osteoporosis. It may be a coincidence - I may have developed this condition even if I hadn't ridden all those miles over a number of years - but I wouldn't suggest that others discount this possible connection.
