I was working on some wheels today and when I tried to remove a freewheel I found that the FW tool wouldn't fit over the Nuovo Record lock nut. I had to remove the axle to get clearance for the tool. The freewheel was a 5 speed Regina Extra BX that uses a splined tool. I'm not eager to do this again, so I would like to buy or trade for a Regina or maybe another Italian freewheel that uses a Nuovo Record compatible design, even the notorious two prong style would be fine.
This freewheel looks new and is a 14-16-18-21-24. I would like the same cogs and similar excellent or NOS condition for use on a set of show wheels for a 69/70 Cinelli. If you have something that would work let me know. I'm willing to buy, sell or trade.
Now for the questions: I tried the tool on a C Record hub set and it cleared the locknut. Could this freewheel be an off topic item? If so why would it be a five speed and not six or seven. If it is within the CR time line how could an Italian company sell a freewheel that requires a removal tool that isn't compatible with Nuovo Record hubs?
