Subject: [CR] 7-Eleven Huffys (Ed Granger)

Ben Serotta was convinced, I believe by the team, to build the Huffy 7-Eleven frames with True Temper tubing. The result was a rash of breakage problems and team members scrambling to other builders for new frames. Not to say having a custom frame built wasn't common practice in the pro peloton, but the problems with the True Temper Huffys apparently made this more of an issue than usual, even among those who had previously been content to race on the Serotta-built Columbus-tubed "Murray" frames. I believe Bob Roll at one time raced on a Huffy 7-Eleven frame built by De Rosa. This is documented in a back issue of Road Bike Action magazine in an article about who actually built the 7-Eleven team bikes, and was also described by Ben Serotta himself during his presentation at this year's NAHBS.
