Jon, that is a PX-10 (or PX-10E, not sure when the E was added or what it meant) from the 60's. The giveaway is the gold block letter "Peugeot" decal on the downtube. The early 70's DT decal was entirely different. My 1967 PX-10 has exactly the same decals. Another clue is the MAFAC Racer brake calipers marked "Dural Forge" rather than "Racer", as they were marked by the early 70's. Finally, this has the Simplex shift levers that resemble the much later Huret Jubilee shifters, much different from the Simplex Criterium shifters on the PX-10 in the 70's.

\r?\n> Earle et al,

\r?\n> I am planning a post with a number of questions regarding

\r?\n> my rebuild of a PX-10,

\r?\n> but you have jumped on one of my questions regarding the

\r?\n> ID.  Mine has five

\r?\n> digits 68193 that appear to have been in there before paint

\r?\n> and the paint

\r?\n> appears to be very much original.

\r?\n> Please see photos posted:

\r?\n> ?action=view&current=DSCN5185.jpg

\r?\n>

\r?\n> It was my understanding that Peugeot only used the metal

\r?\n> strip tags for a

\r?\n> relatively short period, no?

\r?\n>

\r?\n> After about 10 hours of searching every image I could find

\r?\n> on the web and

\r?\n> especially considering the various brochures and catalogs

\r?\n> published on the web,

\r?\n> I am convinced mine is certainly a PX10 and probably 1969

\r?\n> +/- a year.  The five

\r?\n> digit serial number is said to be indicative of 50's

\r?\n> vintage, but the

\r?\n> components, frame, paint and decals speak of late 60s.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> I was hoping we might distinguish PX-10 from PX-10 E from

\r?\n> PX-10 LE. It seems the

\r?\n> LE was introduced with the 74 imports, but not sure. Once

\r?\n> the E was introduced,

\r?\n> did the PX-10 disappear?

\r?\n>

\r?\n> My stem, handlebar, and pedals are nice, but not original

\r?\n> as are the seat and

\r?\n> seat post, but the rims, hubs, brakes, derailleurs,

\r?\n> shifters, quick release,

\r?\n> headset, and crank assembly all appear to be original.

\r?\n> There is a vintage

\r?\n> replacement Dura-ace freewheel.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> Please comment on what I have here.

\r?\n> Many thanks to all,

\r?\n> The reason that serial numbers stamped into the BB of a 60s

\r?\n> or 70s PX-10

\r?\n> make no overall sense is that they were not put there by

\r?\n> the factory. The

\r?\n> factory used a short metal strip with a number on it,

\r?\n> riveted to the BB

\r?\n> shell.  ...
