I believe the popularity of vintage bicycles has brought out the counterfitters, con-artists and the "just-plain-don't-know-any-betters". The later may mean well enough but obviously don't know the difference between a top-of-the-line early 1970s Colnago and a lower 1980s model - and will argue with you if you try to point out the differences. That aside, I don't mind if someone draws attention to a vintage bike on eBay - provided it really is vintage and they don't try to misrepresent it as being something it isn't.

I vote for a new list rule, which has been used on other enthusiast boards of which I am a long time member. NO FS posts from NEWBS, defined as less than 10 posts, and at least two of which contribute something to the society. That means you cannot get past the 10 post limit with 'me too', etc. posts. The penalty is a BAN.
We all love to move on our stuff, to get $$$ to buy more different stuff. But CR is a gathering of enthusiasts who love vintage bikes, not a For Sale list for a bunch of slacker whores hawking anachronistic bike cr@p in every venue they can find. No matter how much the CR bottom feeder contingent wishes to circumvent that to find the 'next h0ly grail' for $20, so they can flip it for some quick drVg / alchie money.

Pat,
Pictures of that "Hetchins" were posted on Bike Forums last night. While there are some similarities, the lugs clearly are not those of a Hetchins.
Put the hammer away, and go back to checking Craigslist. Your deal of a lifetime didn't pass you by.

What is this ridiculous talk of Blackmail? In case people hadn't noticed,
eBay is an auction site, pure and simple, not a private selling site or a
classified ads site. If you put an item on eBay, you are auctioning it and
the item goes to the highest bidder, those are the rules. If you don't like
them, then don't use eBay. You can sell it privately before the auction or
after it but while the auction is live, as in this case, then it goes to the
highest bidder. I would certainly report people who are selling privately
while the item is still live on eBay. Otherwise they are making a mockery of
the system and should be barred. It's as simple as that. Try withdrawing an
item at Sotheby's while the room is bidding !
