Peter, Larry, and list members
Thank you so much for your interest, at least I know it was a maker, and another addition to my growing collection of the previously obscure - to me anyway;-)
My wife was born and raised in Croydon and we know George Street well, it is at the end of the High Street (or Main Street) but neither of us can remember a cycle shop so it was probably gone by the late sixties when we met (she probably wouldn't have taken much notice but I certainly would, especially as she went to the college in the next street so I was often hanging around the area!
That would be long before post codes were thought of in the UK, the full address would have been George Street, Croydon, Surrey, my suggestion for F.I.CYC.T. would be something like Federation of Independent Cycle Traders. There is a similar contemporary organisation, now called Association of Cycle Traders (ACT) which claims a hundred year history, I recall reading somewhere about such an organisation for the many independent frame makers back in the day - but that's only a guess. I'm sure more knowledgeable list members will put us right. ! My Churchill came from New Addington which is a Croydon suburb so it all fits.
Now what are those 'horns' on the rear fork stays?
Thanks again guys, the knowledge in this group never ceases to amaze!
regards Ken
