Dale,
And some of us have roots near NYC--namely in NJ. I grew up in Somerville, NJ. Our cycling nexus was "Pop" Kugler's bike shop in Somerville. Pop, of course was the founder of the "Kugler-Anderson Memorial Tour of Somerville" (as a memorial to his son and Anderson, both of whom died in WWII)--for a long time the biggest and most famous bike race in the US. Pop got his Frejus bikes from Tom Avenia in NYC (I believe I visited Avenia's shop once as a teenager, perhaps on the way to Kissena). While I was racing, a friend of mine bought a Frejus track bike from Pop (and, therefore, Avenia) in the 1963-64 timeframe. A few years after I had quit racing and sold all my racing bikes, my girlfriend (now my wife) bought my friend's Frejus for me as a gift. As was my custom at the time, I repainted it to rattle-can black; no decals. Over the years I kept the bike and even upgraded some of the equipment. Finally a few years ago I restored the bike to original condition with new paint, decals, and upgraded period-correct equipment (all Campy this time). There's a lot of nostalgia in this one. I documented the restoration on Wool Jersey. Hopefully it will still be there when the site is back up.
