Ah yes, those pseudo Reynolds 531 decals were distinctly American kitsch dating from the late 1970's. You can find a reproduction of the original advertisement offering both "authentic" and "spoof" Reynolds 531 decals on Velo-Pages using this link:

And while I must admit that the idea itself was rather clever, the fine folks at TI Reynolds failed to see the humor (...as Queen Victoria once opined, "we are not amused") and initiated legal action that ultimately led to a withdrawal of said decals from market.

I bought one of those orange Gios bikes from a craigslist seller a couple of years ago. Someone had replaced the cheapo crankset with a very nice Stronglight 49D, and the bar and stem was a nice wide TTT. Looked like a someone's project to dress up a clunker, but the bike weighed about 40 pounds. Kept the good parts and donated the rest to the local bike coop.

BTW, the bike had a decal that looked for all the world like Reynolds 531...correct size and color, but it said "Not built with Reynolds 531 frame tubes".

If you Gios fans ever wanted an idea of the kind of bicycle Gios made before the glory days of Brooklyn and Roger de Vlaeminck, this current eBay (US) auction gives you a rare (in the USA) example. This colour was THE Gios trademark one before the Brooklyn cobalt blue. But looking at this, it was quite a leap to the pro racing circuit for what was hitherto a low-end, high-volume manufacturer was it not?
