My memory only serves me well until the early '40's on some of this bike
stuff, maybe a little into the late '30's.
These decals are the only shape and color on Scheerens rims I have in my
minds eye.
Think my dad had a set that lasted thru the war, one wheel had a
D"Allesandro 1" tire from prewar that must have been patched 10 times and
still rolled into the mid '40's.
I do remember going on a training ride as a Junior in '48 with the first of
the sew-ups that came in after the war. They were Belgian I think and like
about 450 - 500 gms., barely cleared the fork and frame.
The second ride out I ran over glass and blew both tires out to where they
couldn't be fixed.
My dad was so angry that I missed the car and hit the glass he wouldn't let
me ride for a week.
They were hard to get and quite expensive even tho they were slugs by
today's standards, but gold back then..
