John, some bikes belong to the owner. Some bikes belong to history. Some owners are OCD. Others like to mess with the correctness polices' heads. There is room for us all. Just my view.

I had my1953 Rotrax refinished (POWDER COATED) I ordered from Nick at Lloyds, transfers, I could not believe my eyes when I looked and saw they where NOT water slides BUT vinyl stick ons..VERY high quality perfect in every respect,BUT NOT water slides. So I STUCK them on,They look great and apart from the slight bump when you run your hand over them Look the same as water slides. PLUS I see NO need to clear coat them? (Now I have found that if you go your local Car Bra shop you can get 3M clear vinyl that you can put over transfers to protect them.) NOW. MY POINT IS IS THIS THE RIGHT THING TO DO? Its MY $$ right! But will the Vintage GODS experts,who could at some point JUDGE my, bike FROWN and deduct points for this? WHO CARES RIGHT! BUT IF and when you go to sell (GOD FORBID) this IN your mind, beautiful,refinished frame. DO you reveal this and will it lessen the value? My OTHER point is, That by POWDER coating a frame and using Vinyl transfers are you NOT preserving the frame and making it worth MORE by doing this?
