Subject: [CR] Raleigh forks

My first bike to race on WAS a Raleigh with Cyclo gears, Can anyone explain what the round hole is on the fork bridge? how is it constructed? is this just a piece of round tubing? and what are the forks blades are attached to.? What is the origin of this? where and why did Raleigh (the only maker that I know that has ever used this) do this? Sir Walter is long gone so cant ask him. Cheers John Crump OlddumdquestionsBrit.
