Shipping overseas from the US, it's got to be USPS, and to the UK or "most" other countries, 108" is the rule. That is; the longest length added to the remaining widest perpendicular girth, must not exceed 108". With fork removed, tip the frame forward so the bottom of the head tube and the b.b. shell are the points making contact with the floor, and this is the approximate position you will seek in the box, resulting in less girth. For a medium sized frame, a box of 25" or so in height is good, or larger might be needed for a larger frame. Most bike boxes are about 8" wide, so in that example, the 8" width and 25" height make a 66" girth. Subtract 66 from 108, and this allows you 42" of length. Needless to say, cutting down the box is usually required. So for a larger frame, when the box gets taller, the length decreases, and thus there is a limit to how large of a frame can be shipped. I think a box of this size automatically goes Priority (or faster, which is extremely expensive), which means about 6-10 days delivery, IIRC. USPS.com will give you more specifics, if needed, when you calculate postage rates there. Cost is dependant upon weight, and hence the type of packing you do, but I'd guess about $80 Priority.

Does anyone have any experience on shipping a frameset (frame/fork) to the UK? Any idea of cost when using a regular cardboard bike box? I know how to pack it for protection, just wondering what to tell a perspective customer there about shipping cost and time.
