What have I got here? It's a 30 tooth alloy chainring that looks exactly like a TA six-bolt touring ring, but it's a 5-bolt pattern. The chainring bolt holes are 7 mm like a TA cyclotourist, The offset of the teeth is the same, the same "Made in France" stamping, the same beautiful highly-polished finish. The bag it's in has the TA logo.

The bolt-circle diameter is 80mm, an unheard-of size that's between the modern standard 74mm and the 86mm Stronglight 99. Because the sticker on the bag says "Fr-100", I had hoped for a second that this ring might have had a 100mm BCD -- that would make it fit on Campy Record "factory" triples (the old 60s-70s Record, not the newer versions). But of course it's not even close. Could that have been the price tag -- 100 Francs?

The ring came to me with a bag of five Tevano bolts and spacers that serve the same function as the Campy #818 bolts on the old Record triple, namely attaching a granny ring to the arms of a regular Campy-clone racing double-chainwheel crank. Except these are 7 mm diameter where they pass through the holes in the ring, vs the Campy-standard 10 mm. Also the thread looks to be finer than the M6 x 1 thread on the Campy 818 bolts, so these will not work on a Campy crank. These bolts clearly are meant to go with this ring.

So I guess I have a granny ring made to go on a particular, long gone, rare and very non-standard Tevano (Campy NR clone) crank. Useless to me, but if anyone out there has that crank with the extra holes at 80 mm BCD (47mm between two adjacent bolt holes), I'll sell it and the bolts for $5 plus postage. Please don't ask for it unless you have that crank and will use it; I don't want to sell it to someone who will just hoard it or resell it.
