Subject: Re: [CR] 1/2 Chrome Paint Job

Depends on the year.

My '77 Landau came with just the dropout faces chrome. When I noticed chrome showing through paint chips on the fork, I started stripping it and found the whole thing was chromed. Next I started stripping the rear triangle and ended up with about 1/3 chrome, plus most of the chainstay. I painted a 1/16" gold line around the tubes where I stopped stripping, similar to the lug outlines.

My '81 Ultimate has chrome dropout faces, top of the fork crown and top of the chainstay.

When parts are treated that way, are they fully chromed& then masked& painted, or are they chromed to a bit past the 1/2 way mark& then masked& painted?

Mine has been repainted by a previous owner& I don't know what might be under the paint on the stays. I don't want to get started and use any stripper on it until I am committed to the restoration since it is my daily rider.
