Steve,

I mentioned that we sold sets of Mafac Racers for $12. That's probably what we paid for them. They sold for ~$25 but we never sold many sets, just used them for replacement parts.

By that time side pulls were becoming the thing.

At the end of 1973 I bought my first "Pro" bike, a new 1971 Gitane Super Corsa that had been hanging on the wall at the shop where I'd been working part time. It was all Campy except for Mafac Competition brakes. I paid $150 for it in a "clearance" sale.

I spent $18 for a set of Universal 68 side pulls. That was a lot of money for a starving part time bike mechanic and student living on the GI Bill.

I couldn't even give the Mafac Competitions away!
