Thank you to everyone for your replies to my post.

The dearth of correct rims is certainly a dilemma which is not going to resolve itself for those of us who are restoring and riding British bikes built up to the early-1950s. There has been a revival of 650B out of a French tradition so why no interest in a modern reissue of English 26 x 1 1/4" EA1's? Given that British bikes were more common in North America from an early date I would have thought there would be a market? Even for those of us who have been able to find period-correct rims what will we do in the future to replace those should they become damaged?

Food for thought.
