The Model 49, like several other Stronglight models, was made both with the old proprietary Stronglight extractor thread, 23.35 mm I believe, and with the now standard Campy-type 22 mm thread.  If you have the older Stronglight thread, a smaller 22 mm puller, even one made by Stronglight, will slide into the hole without engaging the threads.  If you have the newer 22 mm thread, the old proprietary Stronglight extractor will be too large to fit or thread in.  If the dustcaps thread in, they are the right ones, but that is a different issue from the extractor.  The threading change was made sometime around 1982 and models 104, 105, 99 and probably others, can also be found with either thread.

Also note that if you have the older 23.35 mm thead, an old TA 23.00 mm extractor will thread in and will sometimes succeed in pulling the crank.  However it is a bit undersized, and if the crank is on tight, trying to pull it with a TA extractor can sometimes strip the crank threads.

I have what I've been told is a Stronglight 49D crankset & what is alleged to be a crank puller for the same.  The puller won't thread into the crank arms although the dust caps work fine.  Other than the obvious (one of the afore mentioned items not being what it is claimed to be) is there anything else to consider before/while talking to the sellers?
