I have a full campy victory gruppo on a sl tubed guerciotti ...the only exceptions are the super record hubs and skewers laced to ambrosio montreal tubular rims, I do believe that a good wheelset can make the most difference in ride quality .......the bike shifts as well or as poorly(depending on me) as anything else in my lineup that's friction and the brakes are just fine for over the bar routing in terms of stopping power ... ....I am completely on the fence as to changing anything on it other than ye olde white turbo saddle but its ok for the most part and if you stay off it when your ass gets sick of it your golden... and that's because it rides and performs just fine for a cyclist of my caliber and satisfies me ,so why mess with success .....I have flipped cheaper bikes ,and some bikes I have regretted selling despite their definitely medium status ... I understand a collector's and or rider's preference for top of the line but there's a really fine line as far as ride quality and performance between good quality to top quality ,unless your a pro, and now all our old prized retro essentials are about as useful as high button shoes at that level in terms of performance and competitiveness.. ...cache' ,elan ,exclusivity, magnum caliber ,the best or kinda close or gas pipe..whatever turns you on is what turns you on ....joi de vivre is undefinable and has nothing to do with a price point or price tag to me... that being said the top bikes are a thing of beauty and worthy of preservation and undoubtably very fine rides as well....just being able to ride a bike is my main critertia for what its worth,in terms of value and enjoyment ... i think it started with my schwinn spyder bike .....that i crashed rather spectacularly on a downhill run ,way before helmits ....fortunately the noggn is relatively durable but maybe that's part of what happened to the contents, just one of far too many hits but still ticking ....have fun.. I do
