Luke,

I've been exposed to a lot of heavy metal fumes and otherwise (not music) during my various vocations. About 35 years ago I became concerned about it and started wearing a respirator with filter cartridges designed for metal fumes whenever I did any welding or brazing. They can also be used for painting.

3M and other companies make these and you can get a complete rig for ~$40. My liver, kidneys and brain are worth that much to me!

You should be able to get the proper mask setup at a safety or welding supply dealer.
