Alternative possibility: It was common to slap Campagnolo decals on everything back in those days including frames and rims. I remember seeing them on lots of bikes with Mavic and other make rims.

Remember the Campagnolo bands for the tops of windshields? What about the yellow "Campy Onboard" car window stickers?

I'd been away from the cycling scene for a number of years when Campy rims came out. I thought someone got carried away with Campy decals when I first saw those rims! ;-)
