I noticed someone had placed a small video of this stage of the 1974 Giro in a message to the list. The protagonist of that stage was Jose Manuel Fuente, "El Tarangu", of the KAS Team. Fuente was a free spirit, a heavy smoker, and one of the great pure climbers. He had a brief career as a professional and died young of renal disease. Although the 1974 KAS Team used Masi as their supplier, Fuente always rode his Marotias with bar end shifters. *http://tinyurl.com/2dngkth* Marotias, born in Santander, and also very eccentric, was a builder located in Alegria de Oria, Spain. (Basque country). He catered to local professionals and some amateurs. His prices were steep and one couldn't always count on prompt delivery. He was fond of light, strong frames with wrap-around seat stays. George
