Subject: [CR] Dan Artley's Vintage ride from Baltimore to Annapolis & Velo Orange Friday, June 18

People expressed interest at Cirque for the ride this coming Friday, but I've only gotten commitments so far from Leslie Tierston parking at Marley Station and heading north to meet us and Tom Simon who I met at Cirque.

An update on the Long Vintage/Fixed Gear Ride on Friday, June 18. We're riding Friday to avoid congestion on the bike paths and to accomodate Velo Orange's business hours.

The ride starts in the Avalon Area of Patapsco State Park, which can be accessed from most map programs. e-mail me back for directions and to let me know if you're joining us. The ride is projected to start around 9:00 am from the Avalon area, proceed through quiet roads to the BWI airport bike path, and connect to the Baltimore and Annapolis (B&A) bike path. Then a short two mile or so jump into Annapolis crossing the Severn River for lunch at the town dock, with many restaurants and good seafood. Following lunch a fairly urban ride a bit over two miles to Velo Orange to check out their shop. I plan to have a seat bag for carrying back a pair of tires.

The route is reversed and we head back. The other good starting point for those who don't wish to do the extra miles is Marley Station Mall (search Marley Station Mall Baltimore for directions), which borders the trail and is about 16 miles into the ride. The round trip to the Annapolis town dock and Velo Orange is approximately 35 miles. You could start at ten and head north to meet us. The route is virtually flat so it's a great fixed gear ride, an easy metric for those who do the whole ride and we should set a good social pace. I'll be riding my fixed Jack Taylor to keep it fixed and on topic. Scenery is nice with a bit of urban rolled in, but you'll be away from cars for much of the ride.

The more the merrier. All who rode last year used toeclips & straps & were similarly sized, and we did a bit of bike swapping. And the folks at Velo Orange couldn't have been more accomodating. And we'll be hosting our annual vintage ride from home Saturday, July 10. We hope you can join us for that.

It'll be good riding weather Friday,

Dan Artley in Parkton, Maryland
