Peter,

Last month you asserted that the French Spidel components were "at their peak" at around 1980 a while back, roughly when the following Spidel seat post auction came to light:

ebay # 350367192787

I am curious to know what brought you to that conclusion about the ca. 1980 Spidel "group" compared to other nations' offerings and compared to previous French components. Would you (and anyone else who wants to jump in) please address this for us?

Thanks in advance,

A good era to do an all-French component fit methinks with the absolute top o the heap of Spidel, CLB etc. at their peak at this time.

But to the point, this would me my top pick of a French seat pin/pillar/post:

or

Saddle: get yourself an Ideale 90R titanium

Bottom bracket: Stronglight titanium

Throw all of this together and you've shaved off 3/4 lb or more off any comparable Eye-Tie component fit and then some. My 64 cm (c-t) 1982 Peugeot Pro-10 weighs but 20.5 lbs and that's not even with the titanium bb or saddle.
