Subject: [CR] US 1980 World Championship team bike?

This interesting bike was purchased recently from a fellow in Grenoble.

He described it as a vintage Reynolds-tubed bike with Campanolo components. I'd not seen it until I unpacked it recently.

the most distinctive (indeed only) marking are these two rainbow wraps with "World Championship Class(?) US Cycling Team" Indeed the 1980 Worlds were held at Sallanches, which is in the same area as, 126 km from, Grenoble.

can anyone identify or demystify this bike? Might this have been a US team bike? If so, why would it have been so anonymous/generic? There are eyelets on the drop outs. would that suggest it was a training bike (to take fenders). or might a competition bike of that era have eyelets? is there anyway of determining the tubing?
