I thought it interesting that this bike went for $1000, when a Singer racing frame, also in a large size sold for $1425 recently. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item%0655912025 David Benson Auckland, NZ  http://retroride.blogspot.com

Dear  Brother Tom (Hayes):

Bad luck for the seller that I just took delivery of a Hobbes Superbe that will need a bit of work, trashing the bike budget for a while, or I'd have tried for it.

It was a large frame, and that always cuts down on the number of potential buyers.  I didn't see any big negatives to it, other than the racks being gone.  Condition looked pretty good.  Maybe French constructeur bikes are on the way out.  Or maybe that people just don't have money in the kitty for impulse buys these days.

I saw that one and thought much the same.  Somebody got a real steal there.  If it had been a couple of cm smaller and had its Jubilee RD refitted it could probably easily have fetched twice that.  Or more. Or probably even been sold for that exactly as it is with better photos and from a better known seller.  I see some sellers getting a huge premium in prices gotten over others.

There are some amazing bargains on Ebay from time to time, just as there are some items that sell for literally multiples of their realistic worth.  Go figure.
