Thanks for the link to the very interesting article with photos.
I was confused by the author's (Robert Broderick's) description of the Model 49 as a five arm crankset when the photo shows a six-arm spider. Then I realized that although the chainring in this particular photo has six arms, the crank arm itself has only five bolts, which I suppose makes it a 5-arm crank, though it doesn't really have much in the way of arms. The 5-bolt arm is attached to a six-arm chainring resulting in a look very much like the venerable TA crankset. Even so, the photo and the description don't agree in that the inner and outer chainrings are held together by six bolts, not five as described. The photo almost looks like the arm attaches to the inner chainring, with the outer ring being scabbed onto the inner. This is contrary to the description, but is probably just my mistaken impression of the photo. Can anyone confirm?
Also the article did not mention of the early Model 99 with the square crank arm cross section, but this is a minor omission, I'm sure.
