The conventional wisdom is that 34 teeth is the smallest inner chainring on 110mm bolt circle.  This gave a 27 inch low gear with a 34 tooth freewheel and 27 inch wheels back in the day, which was considered fine for loaded touring.  Anyone else remember shifting a 5 speed 14-34 tooth freewheel?  Your cadence went from sewing machine to pile driver with one pull of the rear derailleur lever.  Aah, memories--

Can anyone tell me what might be the SMALLEST inner chainring that I could use on my Maxy?  It has a 110 BCD, 52T outer and using a Shimano 600 front derailleur.
