Dynamos (generators) are very much on topic. Lightweights are not limited to racing bikes, and most real lightweight tourers and commuters neeed lights to be useful. Personally, I think it is less important to have period correct lights than effective and safe ones. B&W (Busch & Muller) make some of the best dynamos and dynamo-driven lights. I have them on several bikes.
