Subject: [CR] Stronglight crank tap size revisited--What size tap do I need to order?

I know I asked a question regarding Stronglight threads just a few days ago which generated several responses and used up much precious bandwidth.  Thanks to all who responded.

A CR list member was kind enough to loan me his VAR Stronglight-size tap which successfully cleaned and chased the majority of the dust cap threads of the Stronglights I own.  And for his kind act I am grateful.

Again, the tool I used was made by VAR.  I know the old Stronglight cranks take a 23.35x1mm crank extractor.  The VAR tool I used to clean up the threads on my cranks was stamped: VAR 22, 3.  It worked like a dream.  So I jumped on the phone, called some 24 hr machine shop and ordered a custom made 22 x 3 tap--(just like it said on the tool.)  The lady wasted no time in saying that she would have the tap made and get it right out to me.  Said tap is now on its way here.

I was up late into the wee hours of this morning when it dawned on me that the "22, 3" number stamped on the VAR tap may be a VAR tool number--not a dimension.  If anyone knows anything about VAR tools and whether or not the "22, 3" is code for the tool or the actual dimension please let me know off-list.  I do not want to create a bunch of bandwidth issues.
