Really ? NOTHING extraordinary ?
C'mon, at least some of the below current builders of randonneur bikes rate a grade of "extraordinary":
Toei
Tournesol
Peter Weigle
Baylis in the randonneur mode
And of course the modern Rene Herse
I've owned 5 Singers - the first one built for me in 1975 - and you know I've loved them all. Thanks in part to your wonderful books, there has been a real renaissance in bikes of this type, and they carry on the intent and spirit of the old world builders. But I think these makers definitely are right up there with the grand old marques of old. If anything these makers have raised the bar as evidenced by careful design, attention to finish detail, and innovation in terms of rack fitment, integrated lighting, and numerous other details.
