The Dura Ace AX plastic cover can be brittle after it has aged, so you are right to be concerned. In the past, to soften these DA AX covers, I've used the type of heat gun that is often used to strip paint. In the U.S., "Milwaukee" is the brand of a good heat gun. You must be careful and keep the heat gun back a bit from the cover, as you don't want to melt it, which could happen if you get the cover too hot. Experiment a bit and take your time, but the covers do soften up and become more pliable with heat. I am not sure if a hair drier will generate enough heat, if you are thinking of going that route, but it might be worth a try if you don't have a heat gun at your disposal. Again, take your time and don't rush it and I think you'll be OK. If you wreck the cover and need a replacement, let me know, as I think I have 1-2 extras stashed away. Good luck.

Hi all
I need to remove the Plastic Fairing from over a Shimano Dura Ace AX Head set, I have made a search of the archives and come up empty.
Hope to remove it without deforming or breaking it.
