David, I well remember admiring the Dawes Galaxy back in the 1970's. Being a poor college student, and predisposed to tightfistedness anyway, I was drawn toward the less expensive brands and models. The Galaxy was a little fancier than my Peugeot UO-8, with some Reynolds tubes in the main triangle, so it sported the appropriate frame decal. I think they typically had Brooks saddles, and possibly alloy handlebars, although I'm not sure. The exact specifications are probably well documented somewhere, and doubtless engraved on the hearts of some CR List members. I never saw one that wasn't painted in those sedate and sensible tones of brown or green, or possibly black, gray or blue, apparently favored by the British cycling public. I thought it looked like a great value back then at around $150.
