Subject: [CR] Gran Sport Rear gear

I have received a Campag Gran Sport Rear gear, almost NOS. It is the much later one without the cable adjuster. I have another much earlier one on my 1953 Rotrax that has the cable adjuster. NOW both have the original hangers, the earlier one will, with a struggle take a 14-24 rear and a 52-45 front, even then the chain tension is not good on the 14X45, The newer one I set up with a 14x24 rear and a 52x42 front the chain tension is PERFECT! in fact I think it would take an even wider range cogs and poss a 6speed. SO I took a GOOD look at both gears, THE HANGERs seem different, the old one has the notch to limit much smaller travel, The newer one the notch has much more travel. this allows the chain the take up more slack. ALSO the later one does not have the screw on the arm to limit adjustment. Has anyone else found this to be the case, I wonder if you used a late hanger with the notch to give more travel, on the older gear would it work and give a wider range of gearing? Dont want to pull everyting apart to find out, Cheers John Crump OldtwodaytogoridingyetBrit, Parker. Co USA
