Well, if you put it that way, you have to lump Raleigh into the same
pot. Thinking back to the 1950s when I lived there and was shopping
around for a lightweight for club rides, Dawes was one of the
factory-built bikes I was considering, along with Falcon, Coventry Eagle
and a few others I can't remember now. Just about any make that offered
a model made of 531 with fancy lugs. Raleigh was akin to Hercules, okay
for the postman or bobby or a ride-to-work roadster, but not for club
riding. In the end I settled for a Claud Butler because I thought the
man himself built them in the back of the store.
