After reading all the posts on Dawes it looks like I will have to go out and look for one... (obviously tongue-in-cheek) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sometime around 1970, I swapped for a much-used Dawes Double Blue, in Providence, RI. It was the first bike I toured on, going up to Chuck Harris's place opposite the hostel way up the gravel hill. It was a sound bike, well-suited with its Claud Butler pannier carrier and our bright red home-made panniers. As I've noted before, Susan's pannier plans and patterns were nice enough that (a) EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) got interested in hiring her, and (b) Hartley Alley threatened legal action, claiming infringement of his patent application through the Touring Cyclist shop. Neither came to pass.

I have no memory of when Double Blue left Chez Sachs, or for what newcomer to the stable, but I'm pretty sure I toured on it in Oregon in '74, so I clearly formed a real attachment to it.

But, not knowing better, by then it had been repainted, with no effort to match or find transfers/decals. A good time.
