My last thoughts on Dawes etc, (HORRAY) My Dad was in Real estate in Brum and did a lot of business with the GM of Dawes, who's name escapes me, I could have had the top of the line 1950s Dawes built,for a mere threepence, BUT my club mates would have refused to ride with me! I can not remember ANY club mate EVER riding OR RACING (EXCEPT REG HARRIS) a Dawes, Raleigh, Hercules UGH! or any other mass produced bike. Things have not changed,even then, you had to TRY keep up with the Jones.Get the BEST and lightest and latest bike and equip you could, Show your mates that you where the "GEN" NOT a TUGO! Lead NEVER follow. Be the head of the pack, I remember when ALLOY stem and bars came out, everyone had to have them. Welded frames, Who needs lugs extra weight,Holdsworth LaQuelda, the frame to get.or get the local builder to build you one. Things never change,
