About a year ago I acquired a Brooks Pro of similar age and condition to the one you describe. It had been stored for many years and, before it was put away, seems to have been slathered in some sort of grease that feels like Proofide. I decided not to touch it - just to put it on my bike and ride. It has worked out very well.
