Greetings all. Barrie Carter's comments on Bill Hurlow were very appreciated. I find it very interesting that bicycles are on of the few items that carries an individual's name. And further that that name was sometimes the one belonging to the person who actually built it. Of course Schwinn was an individual but that was a company. Probably the first builder's name i became aware of was Bob Jackson when i was in my mid-teens about 1970. Jackson's had incredible cachet in Chicago then. It's a kind of immortality. When we ride and preserve a bike such as a Hurlow we preserve something of the spirit that a great artisan put into tangible form, something they were passionate enough to put there name on. It's another aspect of our hobby and not the least one. I hope others who knew Bill Hurlow will share their recollections w/ the list. Billy Ketchum; Chicago, IL; USA.
