I have made my own decals using waterslide beldecal paper, of both the "clear" and the "white" variety. Limitations from my experiments: 1. I can't print silver or gold with my HP printer, so many tubing decal colors are off. 2. I wasn't happy with my color "saturation", and the bike frame paint color would influence the visible decal color once appled, eg. Blue lettered decal over a yellow bike = a somewhat green final letter shade. Using the white paper eliminates this, but if you don't want a white background, expect some time with the exacto knife. 3. The water-slide paper is very thin, and if I wasn't very careful my decal colors would "crack" during frame application.
I find it a useful way to make decals for my "rattlecan, grease and flip" $200 final-sales-price projects. But then again, I'm easily amused.

I'm trying to make a temporary restoration of my 78 Comp GS -- Thanks to all of the rust removal ideas here lately, I plan to get rid of the rust, feather out any deep chips, etc., and then apply a few layers of rattle can paint over the existing coat. I'd like to add decals, also, and the existing ones are in rough shape.
Question: Has anyone tried the do-it-yourself decal materials, such as available from this manufacturer--

i was surprised to see they offer a white decal - which as we all know is a must at home, since printing in white is a challenge even for professional printers.
