Your search for a French threaded 1" headset is doomed, since all French threaded headsets are 25mm, or rarely 28mm (tandem), never 1". Pretty minor quibble I know -- just sayin'

Did Stronglight even make alloy headsets in French? Seems like they must have, but all the A9 and later alloy Stronglights I've seen were English thread.

Who was it who had the French threaded EDCO headsets for sale? I bought one and they had more at the time, but that was a year or two ago -- so the chances are good that whoever had 'em then is sold out now. Yellow Jersey maybe? The one I got is gold anodized alloy, beautiful and _awesome_ quality. Smoothest headset I ever felt. I seem to remember they last pretty well too. I put one on the second frame I ever built for myself, in about '78. A touring bike, it got lots of miles including heavily loaded -- camping with front panniers. Later I sold that bike to a guy who rode it around the world.

Super Records are still seen NOS in French now and then. Sorry that doesn't help if you need it _now_ but save a search in eBay and one will turn up eventually. I assume that would fit into your definition of "a 'modern' campagnolo style design" and it is alloy, just not Stronglight. Three out of four ain't bad eh? Might try http://www.bicycleclassics.com, they mention Campy French headsets but no specifics, just "Please contact us with your specific requirements."
