Well at the risk of speaking for Dan, I think what he has is the cable quick-disconnect for the "racing" S-A hubs, the ones that came with alloy shells and wingnuts. As far as I know these were sold from the late 40s through the mid-50s. They let you fix a flat quickly without having to re-adjust the cable length afterward.
