I've been doing this for years, but, only on Campy and Stronglight. I haven't noticed any thing but good out of mine. I think the hardness problem is overstated. The biggest problem with pitting is adjusting too tight, and accuracy of the face and threads, not the hardness. I am only talking about Campy or Stronglight.
