Hi list, I think the regrinding method is probably practical for many headset races. I doubt it would make senseĀ for hub races or cones except as a last resort on very rare types. B.B. cups and spindles are in my opinion probably in the same catagory. The pitting on spindles is frequently quite deep and ocurs in such a way as to reduce the diameter of the spindle. The load {and damage} on a headset bearing is in line with the axis of the bearing. light regrinding simpley reduces stack hight slightly. On a hub race or B.B. race the load is at 90 Deg. to the axis. Regringing will generaly result in a situation where larger than standard balls would be required to make up for the metal removed, this is not usualy a practical repair.
