Mark,

I did have one years ago and if I remember Mike Kone was the one who help me date it. Way back when there seemed to be some confusion as to what the first year of Super Record, the first generation actually was. That I remember the derailleur had the stamping "patent" on it but no year.

If they are online Peter Koskinen, Dale Brown or Mike Kone might have the answer.

Peter,  I noticed you wrote "first generation Super Record derailleur from 1973" in part of your note to Mike.  Have you seen an original Super Record rear derailleur with the 73 patent date?  I own one but I've never seen another.  They must be out there.  I assume it was the very first production run.  Or was it not even a "production" piece?  Of course '75 & up is the norm.  Though I haven't seen one marked 74.

Does anyone else own a PATENT 73 Super Record rear derailleur, or seen a PAT 74 version?  Since the Super Record groupo was introduced in 1974 (late 1973?), it makes sense that 73 & 74 dated SR rear derailleurs existed to a certain degree, maybe for pro teams or as samples.

Mike,

If the rear derailleur is marked the same as the first generation Super Record derailleur from 1973 then it might possibly mean that this is a first generation NR rear, and if original to the legnano tell you what year the bike is. Either way nice find. Congrats !! Others on the list may know more, but that's my hunch.
