I have been following this discussion with interest as I have a Ph.D in Materials Science and long long ago worked at US Steel's rolling mill in Pittsburgh as a summer job. Can anyone give me an idea what a set of 531 tubes for a bike went for compared to a lower cost alloy steel vs. heavy plumping tube back in the 70's?
